AFRISOS, in partnership with The Wilderness Project and Chameleon Corridors, presents “Framing The Arc,” a life-changing 10-day Expedition Filmmaking Workshop in Tanzania’s Eastern Arc Mountains, East Africa’s most ancient and biodiverse ecosystems.
This workshop is for East African filmmakers passionate about conservation and impact storytelling, ready to make their mark while connecting deeply with the land and communities of the Eastern Arc Mountains.
This Expedition Filmmaking Workshop is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn, grow, and create as a storyteller.
We are selecting 5 filmmakers to join us on an expedition-style workshop that covers a broad range of filmmaking skills, from story development to production and post-production.
What You Will Learn
Participants will be fully immersed in the world of short documentary filmmaking, learning key skills including:
Storytelling: Developing compelling narratives about the Eastern Arc Mountains and their biodiverse ecosystem.
Filmmaking Techniques: From shooting and directing to sound recording and camera operation.
Interviewing and Cultural Sensitivity: Master the art of conducting interviews with local communities while respecting cultural contexts.
Expedition Filmmaking: Experience the challenges and excitement of filming deep in the rainforest, from equipment maintenance to navigating the harsh conditions of remote environments.
Post-Production Workflow: Learn how to edit efficiently and effectively following a strategic methodology.
Workshop Outcome: Throughout the 10 days, each participant will be challenged to produce a high-quality short film. All films will be screened on the final day of the expedition.

Mentorship & Training: Work alongside world-class filmmakers and wildlife experts. Learn everything from story structure to equipment maintenance, interviewing techniques, and post-production editing.

Potential for Future Work: Outstanding participants will be considered for future Wilderness Project’s expeditions, offering a paid opportunity to work on ongoing wildlife conservation documentaries.
Eligibility & Application Process
Age: You must be 18 years or older to apply.
Nationality: You must be a citizen of an East African Community country.
Language: You must be proficient in Swahili.
Experience: This is not a program for beginners. We are seeking filmmakers who already know how to use a camera and have basic experience with filmmaking.
Physical & Mental Readiness: The Eastern Arc is ancient, rugged, and demanding. You must be physically fit and mentally prepared to handle extreme outdoor conditions, including long days, unpredictable weather, and remote living.
Passion & Curiosity: We are looking for filmmakers who are passionate about conservation and impact storytelling.
Availability: You must be available to travel to Tanzania between 9th and 21st March 2026. Shortlisted candidates must commit to the full 10-day workshop.
