We're selecting 10 East Africans to spend 6 days in the Western Corridor of Serengeti learning from accomplished African filmmakers and creating a film with Grumeti Fund's scientists and conservationists. All expenses paid, experience the savannah as your classroom.

The Grumeti Fund in partnership with AFRISOS, is excited to announce the Grumeti Fund Media Lab 2023, a three-session lab that for East African conservation storytellers to take their craft to the next level. This all-expenses-paid* opportunity is catered toward local scientists, conservationists, NGO communicators, filmmakers and photographers.

We are selecting 10 participants for the first session, which will be held from March 7th to March 12th, 2023 in the Serengeti National Park. This six-day intensive course will be taught by Tanzanian conservation documentary filmmakers Jigar Ganatra, Frank Papushka, Wildlife Photographer LauraClara Cosmas and Conservation Communications Expert Bhoke Mtatiro-Mgeni who will cover various topics related to conservation media and storytelling for impact. Each of the 6 days, participants will go through theoretical lessons in the morning and apply their newly learned skills while going on game drives in the afternoons. By the end of the media lab, each participant group will have created a short film.

There will be a follow-up session in October 2023 where Media Lab participants will be eligible to work hand-in-hand with scientists at Grumeti Fund to create a film that will be submitted to film festivals in Tanzania and around the world.

*This is an All-Expenses-Paid program, however, participants will be responsible for their own travel expenses before arriving in Arusha, Tanzania, including their vaccinations and the round-trip tickets to the country.

NB: This is an experience that will take participants out of their comfort zone and put them in potentially risky situations like being in close proximity to dangerous animals, and other wild-related risks. Please make sure you understand the nature of this program before committing to this application process.
