Give Your Camera a Second Life

Turn your old camera into a storytelling tool

Do you have an old camera sitting on a shelf, unused? Instead of letting it gather dust, why not let it become a tool for change?

Through our Camera Donation Campaign, your second-hand camera can help Indigenous communities like the Hadza and Maasai learn photography and filmmaking—giving them the power to capture their ancestral wisdom for generations to come and share their authentic story with the world.

Why your camera matters

For centuries, Indigenous knowledge has been passed down orally through songs and myths from one generation to the next. But today, with modernization and environmental changes, much of this knowledge is at risk of being lost forever.

By donating your camera, you’re not just giving away an old tool—you’re helping preserve a culture. Indigenous communities are trained in photography and filmmaking, allowing them to capture and share their cultural heritage before it disappears.

What impact does your camera make?

Capture and safeguard languages, rituals, and ecological wisdom for future generations.

Preserve Indigenous knowledge:

Empower local storytellers:

Provide communities with the tools to share their stories from their own perspective.

Amplify Voices Globally:

Ensure Indigenous stories reach a worldwide audience, fostering cultural appreciation and understanding.

Create Digital Archives:

Help build a lasting digital record of cultural practices that might otherwise fade away.

Hadzabe media center

Our partnership with the Hadza community that we have built over the last 4 years has resulted in the building of the Hadzabe Media Center—a dedicated space where Hadzabe storytellers can document and share their culture through films and photography. This initiative is part of our ongoing work to help preserve their culture and disappearing stories.

How to donate

Bringing your camera to Tanzania? Donating it is easy:

  1. Bring Your Camera: Whether you're traveling for business, leisure, or safari, pack up that camera gathering dust on your shelf.

  2. Drop-Off Locations: Leave it at participating lodges in Tanzania, such as Asilia, Nomad, or Alex Walker's Serian.

What if you don’t have a camera?

Do not worry! You can still make a difference by support our crowdfunding campaign to provide cameras to the Indigenous storytellers.
